Connecta Life Integration and Spiritual Awakening

Bufo Alvarius — The Sacred Sonoran Toad

A brief and deeply intense experience with 5-MeO-DMT, offered only within a retreat with preparation, safety assessment and integration.

This content can become a lived experience

Connecta Life is not only an information website: we organize retreats in Catalonia in English or French depending on the date, in small groups, with preparation, support and a group online integration session 2 weeks after.

What is Bufo Alvarius?

Bufo Alvarius, also called the Sonoran toad, secretes from its glands a substance rich in 5-MeO-DMT, one of the most powerful psychoactive molecules known.

The ceremony itself lasts about 20 minutes. Within seconds of inhalation, the participant enters a state of ego dissolution — the perception of self, time and space fades away to give way to a sense of unity with all that is.

Why do some people choose this experience?

Some people are drawn to Bufo when they wish to :

  • Explore a period of feeling stuck or of inner transition — including after other forms of support
  • Experience a sense of unity — with a temporary dissolution of identity and a feeling of reconnection with the living world
  • Approach emotions connected with grief or a difficult experience in a different way — without any promise of healing
  • Deepen a spiritual or existential inquiry — by exploring what lies beyond the usual perception of self

The experience remains unpredictable. It is not a medical treatment or psychotherapy and does not guarantee transformation or healing.

How does a ceremony unfold?

  1. Preparation: a health questionnaire and prior safety interview to understand your intention and your physical and psychological state.
  2. Intention: a few minutes of meditation, a clear definition of what you have come to seek.
  3. Inhalation: in a prepared space, using a cautious and individualized approach, with an experienced facilitator present.
  4. Experience: 15 to 20 minutes of an altered state, during which you lie down and receive continuous support intended to reduce risks.
  5. Return and integration: a gentle sharing with the facilitator, rest, time of silence. Integration continues over several days and weeks, with a group online session 2 weeks after the retreat to support anchoring.

Who can take part?

Bufo is not for everyone. The prior safety assessment distinguishes exclusion criteria from situations requiring individual review:

  • Personal history of schizophrenia, psychosis, mania/hypomania or bipolar disorder
  • Cardiac diseases
  • Uncontrolled hypertension
  • Pregnancy, breastfeeding
  • Psychotropic treatments such as SSRIs, SNRIs, MAOIs, certain antidepressants, antipsychotics, mood stabilizers and lithium: mandatory individual safety assessment, which may lead to refusal
  • Minors

A detailed health questionnaire and prior safety interview always precede acceptance. When in doubt, we prefer to refuse rather than take a risk. If your health or medication raises a question, independent medical advice is required.

Why with Connecta Life?

Bufo is offered only to participants already on a retreat, within an integrative framework. We do not run isolated Bufo ceremonies — integration before, on site and during the group online session 2 weeks after returning home is essential for the experience to have lasting meaning.

Our preparation and risk-reduction framework :

  • Private and cautious setting in Spain
  • Experienced and trained facilitators
  • Health questionnaire, prior interview and safety validation
  • Guided integration time and follow-up resources, with a group online session 2 weeks after the retreat
  • Cautious and individualized approach, with no standard dose

Frequently asked questions

Is Bufo dangerous?

Bufo involves real physical and psychological risks. Its very rapid onset and intensity can cause fear, disorientation, involuntary movements or an emotionally difficult experience. Certain medical or psychiatric conditions and some medications may make participation unsuitable. Our framework aims to reduce these risks without claiming to remove them: health questionnaire, individual interview, contraindication checks, the possibility of refusing participation, informed consent, continuous presence and integration time. Bufo is offered only as an option within a retreat and never as medical treatment or psychotherapy. If you have concerns about your health or medication, independent medical advice is required.

What is the difference with ayahuasca?

Ayahuasca is a long experience (4-6h), often accompanied by visions and a progressive emotional and somatic process. Bufo is a brief (15-20 min) and radical immersion in ego dissolution — with no "scenario" or "inner film", but rather an intense suspension of familiar reference points. These experiences are very different, and their suitability must be assessed separately for each participant.

How much does a Bufo ceremony cost?

The Bufo ceremony is offered as an option during a retreat. The price is detailed on our pricing page.

Is it legal?

Natural 5-MeO-DMT derived from Bufo Alvarius requires particular legal caution in Spain. Ceremonies take place only in a private and ritual context, with no export of substance or public promotion, informed consent and a prior safety assessment.
