Connecta Life Integration and Spiritual Awakening

Bufo Alvarius — The Sacred Sonoran Toad

A brief and overwhelming encounter with 5-MeO-DMT, taught by the Native American traditions of the Mexican desert.

This content can become a lived experience

Connecta Life is not only an information website: we organize French-led retreats in Catalonia, in small groups, with preparation, support and integration.

What is Bufo Alvarius?

Bufo Alvarius, also called the Sonoran toad, secretes from its glands a substance rich in 5-MeO-DMT, one of the most powerful psychoactive molecules known. Used for millennia by the indigenous peoples of northern Mexico, it is today recognised as a tool for brief and intense inner transformation.

The ceremony itself lasts about 20 minutes. Within seconds of inhalation, the participant enters a state of ego dissolution — the perception of self, time and space fades away to give way to a sense of unity with all that is.

What is the Bufo ceremony for?

Within our framework, Bufo is often chosen to :

  • Break through a deadlock — when psychotherapy, meditation or other medicines have reached their limits
  • Experience unity — temporary dissolution of identity, reconnection with the living
  • Release grief or trauma frozen for a long time
  • Open a spiritual window — not for the pursuit of ego, but to touch what is greater than oneself

This is not a recreational medicine. The intensity is real and requires serious supervision.

How does a ceremony unfold?

  1. Preparation: prior conversation with the facilitator to understand your intention, your physical and psychological state. Medical screening.
  2. Intention: a few minutes of meditation, a clear definition of what you have come to seek.
  3. Inhalation: a dose adjusted to your profile, administered by an experienced facilitator.
  4. Experience: 15 to 20 minutes of an altered state, during which you are lying down, accompanied, in safety.
  5. Return and integration: a gentle sharing with the facilitator, rest, time of silence. Integration continues over several days and weeks, with an online session after the retreat to support anchoring.

Who can take part?

Bufo is not for everyone. Strict contraindications :

  • Psychiatric disorders or history (schizophrenia, psychosis, unstabilised bipolar disorder)
  • Cardiac diseases
  • Uncontrolled hypertension
  • Pregnancy, breastfeeding
  • Psychotropic treatments such as SSRIs, SNRIs, MAOIs, certain antidepressants, antipsychotics, mood stabilizers and lithium without medical evaluation
  • Minors

A detailed medical questionnaire always precedes acceptance. When in doubt, we prefer to refuse rather than take a risk.

Why with Connecta Life?

Bufo is offered only to participants already on a retreat, within an integrative framework. We do not run isolated Bufo ceremonies — integration before, on site and online after returning home is essential for the experience to have lasting meaning.

Our approach :

  • Private and cautious setting in Spain
  • Experienced and trained facilitators
  • Systematic medical interview
  • Psychological integration support included, with an online post-retreat session
  • Dose individually adjusted (no standard dose)

Frequently asked questions

Is Bufo dangerous?

Used within a medically supervised framework, with prior screening, Bufo presents a low risk. The psychic intensity is strong, but the facilitator is present throughout the experience to keep what is lived safe. The physical risks are linked to the contraindications (cardiac, psychiatric) — hence our strict screening.

What is the difference with ayahuasca?

Ayahuasca is a long journey (4-6h) with visions, a progressive emotional and somatic work. Bufo is a brief (15-20 min) and radical immersion in ego dissolution — no "scenario", no "inner film", rather a pure suspension. The two medicines are complementary.

How much does a Bufo ceremony cost?

The Bufo ceremony is offered as an option during a retreat. The price is detailed on our pricing page.

Is it legal?

Natural 5-MeO-DMT derived from Bufo Alvarius requires particular legal caution in Spain. Ceremonies take place only in a private and ritual context, with no export of substance or public promotion, informed consent and prior screening.
